Search - Best Practices

Ramya Priya Updated by Ramya Priya

Tellius allows users to search and analyze data through natural language queries. The Search experience in Tellius is driven by natural language, but it is important for technical users to take into account the types of questions that users ask to provide the best experience. This can be achieved by enhancing the search experience at the data layer, such as by using synonyms, display names, calculated columns etc. The platform also provides a Search Guide and a Search Inspector to assist users in their data exploration.

Best Practices

  1. Align expectations between end-users and technical resources: It is important to have clear communication between end users and technical resources in configuring data prep. This ensures that the search experience is enhanced in the right way.
  2. Read the Search Guide “How to Search” section: The Search Guide provides easy-to-reference words and phrases that accommodate a majority of searches. Reading this section will help users formulate better queries and get more accurate results.
  3. Start simple: Asking an extremely complex question to start often results in frustration that the functionality is broken. Starting with simple queries will help users get familiar with the system and build confidence.
  4. Utilize the Search Inspector: The Search Inspector is a helpful tool that allows users to see how their queries are being interpreted by the system. This can help users refine their queries and get more accurate results.
  5. Use interactive features: Tellius provides several interactive features such as drilling, switching chart types, and saving to Vizpad on the visualizations. These features allow users to continue exploring from their initial search without having to ask a new query.
