Date picker in Filters
Updated by Ramya Priya
The date picker has been dramatically redesigned to enhance the user experience and improve efficiency when working with date-driven data. The ability to select dates from a calendar view or input them manually provides flexibility, catering to different user preferences for interacting with the component.
With clear visual cues and easy-to-use selection methods, the date picker helps reduce input errors, ensuring that reports and data analysis are based on the correct time periods.
The following options offer a flexible and efficient way for users to navigate through time-based data within the application, ensuring they can easily customize their data view to their specific needs.
Working with the date picker
- Across Tellius, if you select date columns for filtering, then the following window shows up.
- The window has been divided into two parts.
- The left part displays the options for predefined or custom date ranges.
- The right part displays the calendar, highlighting the selected date range.
- Choose Relative dates to select from the predefined date ranges. Choose Range of dates for user-defined date ranges.
Relative dates
- The following pre-defined date ranges will be displayed. As shown in the below screenshot, the "weeks" can be replaced with "years", "quarters", "months", or "days" as required.
- Previous x: Selects the x immediately before the current x.
- This x: Selects the current x.
- Next x: Selects the x immediately following the current x.
- Last [n] x [this] Year: Select a range that spans the last "n" number of x. The "n" can typically be changed to any number, and "this" can be changed to any one of the following:
- this: Selects the current calendar year.
- last: Selects the previous calendar year.
- last to last: Refers to two years ago.
- Next [n] x [this] Year: Select the next "n" x starting from the current date. The "n" can typically be changed to any number, and "this" can be changed to any one of the following:
- this: Selects the current calendar year.
- last: Selects the previous calendar year.
- last to last: Refers to two years ago.
- x to date: Selects the range from the beginning of the current week up to the current date.
- Last x to date: Selects the range from the beginning of the previous x up to the current date.
- Include current x: When selected, this option will include the data of current x regardless of the date range selected.
Range of dates
This option allows for a more specific date range selection.
- Start date and End date: Users can manually enter the start and end dates for their required time period.
- Calendar View: Users can select their date range visually from the calendar. The selected range will be highlighted across the days.
Footer section
- Available dates: This indicates the range of dates that is available for selection within the dataset.
- Last refresh: This shows the date on which the data was last updated.
- Current date: The date when the user is accessing the date picker.
Clicking on "Apply" will confirm the selection and apply the date range to your analysis. Or, click on "Cancel" to discard the date picker window.
Compare with
In the "Compare with" section of the date picker, users are given tools to select a secondary time period for comparison with the primary time period they've set in the "Define time period" section. This feature is helpful for temporal data comparisons such as,
- Evaluate performance between two time periods.
- Identify patterns or anomalies.
- Measure the impact of specific events or campaigns by comparing data before and after their occurrence.
- Understand seasonal impacts on business metrics by comparing different times of the year.
- Preceding period: Selects the time range immediately before the primary time period. For example, if the primary range is May 21, 2024, to May 27, 2024, the preceding period would be the week before that, May 14, 2024, to May 20, 2024. It's useful for sequential analysis.
- Same period last year: This would select the equivalent week from the previous year. If the primary period is a week in December 2024, this option would select the same week in December 2023. It's particularly useful for year-over-year analysis.
- Last [n] x [this] Year: Selects a range that spans the last "n" number of x. The "n" can typically be changed to any number, and "this" can be changed to any one of the following:
- this: Selects the current calendar year.
- last: Selects the previous calendar year.
- last to last: Refers to two years ago.
- this: Selects the current calendar year.
- last: Selects the previous calendar year.
- last to last: Refers to two years ago.
How to customize the calendar view
The calendar view can be changed per your requirements. Navigate to Settings --> Application Settings --> Time Configuration.
- Click on the dropdown under First Day of Week to change the first day to be displayed in the calendar view.
- Switch on the toggle under Time Slices Reference Point to use your current system date as the reference point.
- Switch on the toggle under Include current time to include the current day as a part of specific time periods (e.g., show me revenue from the last 7 days should include today or not?) in search queries.
